The Advantages and Disadvantages of Roller Blinds

Roller blinds are the most common type of window blinds and often the first choice for homes. In this article we will cover the benefits for choosing Rollers and why they may not be the right choice for your home.

Often named pull down blinds, they work by pulling a chain to roll the fabric up or down the window.

Advantages of Roller blinds

Roller blinds come in hundreds of different patterns and colours making it easy to find the right style for your room.

Performance fabrics are available for moisture resistance, solar protection, thermal protection, blockout, fire retardant, and much more.

Rollers can be fitted in any window; including conservatory roofs, skylight windows, wet room, literally any window.

You can make them look a bit better with extra addons such as beads hanging from the bottom, shaped bottoms, or fabric valances to hide the roll.

Disadvantages of Roller blinds

Roller blinds do not offer the best sunlight control. You can choose the amount of sunlight you let enter the room by choosing how low you set the blind. But you cannot change the direction of the sunlight which may be a problem in some rooms.

This same thing also can cause a problem with privacy. You want to be able to see outside, but to do that, you are allowing others to see inside.

Rollers are not always seen as the best of looking blinds. Although they come in a lot of patterns, the same type of blinds can be bought for £10 in a supermarket.

There will be a chain control included, which is not safe for child access without a safety clip. You can remove the need for a chain control but you will need to pay extra for a system such as Perfect Fit or Slow Rise.

Conclusion

As you can see from the advantages and disadvantages, there are plenty of each but it depends more on the usage of your blinds.

If nobody can see in your windows then the lack of privacy is not an issue. If however, you have people continually walking past your windows, the privacy is probably more important.

Thanks for reading and good luck with choosing blinds for your home.
